St. Joseph’s Early Learning Center offers Preschool and Daycare

The Catholic Child Care Experience

St. Joseph’s Early Learning Center is pleased to provide Licensed Daycare for 3 and 4 year olds.

The New Center is at the rear of the school, housed in three portable classrooms. We also offer a three-year-old & four-year-old combined Preschool Program in a Day Care setting, as well as Before/After School Care. St. Joseph’s child care programs provide a safe and healthy environment for children 3 – 12 years old, attending as much as possible to individual needs and development. Children become socially responsible through processes that include positive modeling, assisted learning and encouragement, with an emphasis on respect for self, others, and the environment. Continuing in the tradition of Catholic Education which began at our school in 1965, we offer child care that is based on gospel values.

Our school motto is “Love is… St. Joseph’s” Our child care programs are a philosophical extension of the school, and embrace the following philosophy:

the values that are promulgated are rooted in scripture as well as the teaching and tradition of the Catholic Church;
rich symbols of the faith are evident in the school and the motto and logo reflect the faith dimension that is present;
celebrations which range from simple classroom prayer to eucharistic celebrations are part of the school experience; and
teachers, administrators, and support staff understand their role as one of service. It is, in fact, a ministry.

Our Program

Our programs at the St. Joseph’s Early Learning Centre include St. Joseph’s Daycare, St. Joseph’s Preschool, and the Before/After School Care Programs, reflect the licensing standards set by the province of British Columbia through Island Health, and is enhanced by the inclusion of our Catholic philosophy and access to the school and some of its facilities. Children will experience:

Maximum child/educator ratio 1:10 for Preschool & Before/After School Care and a ratio of 1:8 for Daycare.
Developmentally appropriate toys, puzzles, books, dramatic play, art center, science discoveries, as well as circle time and theme related activities.
Free play opportunities allowing children to experience choices and creativity.
Support in the development of social skills, consideration for the rights and feelings of others, sharing and cooperation.

Our Staff

Our facility boasts over 1,600 square feet of play and learning space. Children have access to a large outdoor play space. Children will experience an art center, science area, dramatic play area, quiet area, developmentally appropriate toys and more.
As child care programs are based in an elementary school setting, children will have access to the following:

Library
Gymnasium (for After School Care)
Child Care Centre Computer

Program Hours & Fees

There is 1 Preschool class run per day and the time is from 8:40 – 11:00 AM.
Daycare runs from 7:30-5:00 pm daily.
Before School Care is open from 7:30-8:20 am and After School Care runs 3:20-6:00 pm.
