Remembrance Day Remembered

On Wednesday, November 6th the grade 6 classes went on a Bringing Peace to the World/ Veterans Gratitude Tour. This included engaging with the interactive exhibits at the Ashton Military Museum, reciting poetry for veterans at the Pro Patria/Trafalgar Royal Canadian Legion, and saying prayers and laying a wreath at the Cenotaph at God’s Acre Veterans Cemetery.

As well the staff and students of St. Joseph’s gathered for a special Remembrance Day Assembly to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country and paid the ultimate price. It was an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and understanding the importance of peace in our world. Through music, silence, poetry, prayer and sharing from our military guest speakers, we entered into the significance of Remembrance Day. Representatives from each class also had the experience of laying down wreaths to honour, remember and respect the men and women who gave their lives in defense of peace and democracy.

It is our hope that this assembly will not only honour the past but also inspire our students to understand the value of peace and the importance of standing against conflict in the world and on the playground.
